Stems (Do you know me too?) – DL - My favourite song on the album. Sometimes I think I recognise people I knew from back ‘in the day’ of the 80’s Sydney music scene, but aren’t sure it’s them. So, this song is about recognition but not knowing exactly when or where, or even if it's real. I’ve used a Siouxsie-esque backing vocals to hark back to the era, and Fabe’s super guitar work sounds to me in part like a mix of Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen. FB - I’ve always loved The Stems and Even and after seeing The Stems live with Ash Naylor in the lineup, I was inspired to write this tune centred around the electric 12 string. As Di points out, then a whole lot of English post-punk elements arrived, including Di’s memorable lyrics and vocals.
