Stainless - DL - The lyric has a subtle edge and sarcasm, and called for a contrasting soft and ‘pure’ vocal. The jangly guitar work and melodic bass lines (thanks to friends Steve Starr and Keith Claringbold) also work to soften the lyric, but then the sharp contrast of Steve's grinding guitar solo reveals the song’s true intent. FB - This song crept us on us. It started as nothing much, just another jangly pop song. When Di had workshopped the vocal she wrote to me and said…”Been working on Stainless for the last week. It's not coming easily to me, and I think we should leave it for a while.” after I listened to her vocals I replied…’vocal is great, the melody and phrasing so right and better by far than what I had in my head!’ Then Steve and Keith went to work and in the studio Michael Carpenter and David Rowley were saying ‘Is this the single?’ Well that’s what it became!
